7.2/10 stinky bananas
Underrated movie. People like to shit on this movie, but I think it's solid.
You still get many of the characters you know and love. Magneto, Mystique, and Wolverine are all great. Plus, you get a couple of good additions to the cast with Kelsey Grammer's Beast and Vinnie Jones' Juggernaut. "I'm the Juggernaut, Bitch!" Remember that? Perfect line delivery. Absolute cinema.
The scene where Jean kills Charles is fucking great. Crazy scene.
Having said that there are a couple of glaring mistakes. They did Cyclops dirty. He's kind of a shitty character in every movie, but they take it a step further and completely dust him 10 minutes in. This guy is supposed to be the leader of the X-Men. He shoots laser beams out of his eyes. He should be a badass, not some beta cuck. I never understood why they couldn't figure out that character.
Glaring mistake No.2 - Jean Gray being the antagonist is a shit decision. She's just not a good villain. I would've preferred if they just ran it back with Magneto, he's so cool. The craziest part about it, is the braniacs over at FOX thought it was a good idea to run back the dark phoenix storyline 13 years later. What a bunch of dummies. You have unlimited source material and you guys decide to run back a failed storyline from the mid-2000s. Yikes. P.S. I recognize that I used the term "run back" 3 different times in this paragraph. I don't know words. I don't read to expand my vocabulary. Sorry to break it to you.
Anyway, I don't hate this movie like most people do, but I think we can all agree that the Juggernaut fucks.
