A James Gunn banger. Great comic book movie.

This version of The Suicide Squad is much better than its 2016 counterpart. It's a bit strange, though. There is some character crossover, but it's definitely not a sequel. I guess I'd consider it a soft reboot. Kind of weird.

Anyway, James Gunn did what he does best. He took a bunch of D-list comic book characters and made them colourful and interesting. Peacemaker, Bloodsport, and King Shark are the obvious standouts - each of them is incredibly funny and captivating. Plus, the action is great, the story is fun and well-written, the villain is threatening, the soundtrack is good, the pace is quick, and the script is funny. Clearly, James Gunn didn't do much wrong. Well done, Mr. Gunn.

Buuuuuuutttt, I do like to nitpick, so here I go. The Harley Quinn subplot is not good. Up until she kills everyone, that is. That part is good. But the part where she's falling in love with the dictator guy is very bad.

I don't think the Ratcatcher ending had the payoff James Gunn intended. At least not for me. I, for one, was not emotionally invested in the rat lady. I don't care about her dad, I don't care about her rats, I don't care. Give me more King Shark.

Anyway, still a great movie despite a few hiccups. The Suicide Squad (2021) is definitely one I'll be happy to revisit. See ya.
