8.8/10 stinky bananas

Steve Martin and John Candy masterclass. Two legends in a great movie. What else could you possibly want?

The first third of the movie is a bit of a slow burn, but once they hit their stride, it's memorable scene after memorable scene. The entire rental car scene is fucking hilarious. It's an all-timer.

The heart and soul of this movie is John Candy. He's so damn good. Obviously, the comedy will always be there in a John Candy performance, but it's the emotional notes he's able to hit in this movie that really take his performance to the next level. He has a couple of monologues that are complete gut punches. His performance is what makes the ending so satisfying. He transforms an incredibly annoying character into a sympathetic one, and a character that you can truly root for in the end. I love John Candy. One of the best to ever do it.

Planes, Trains and Automobiles is the PERFECT Christmas movie primer. Throw it on on a cold night in November, and you will be ready for the holiday season by the time the movie ends. I promise you that.

Anyway, TSBRSoA club member. Go watch it. Did I mention John Candy is in it? Need I say more? See ya.
