8.7/10 stinky bananas

For me, Wes Anderson is very hit-and-miss. This one is a hit. I'm a big fan of The Grand Budapest Hotel.

This movie is very fun. It's visually stimulating. Ralph Fiennes is a delight. Oscar-worthy performance. The supporting cast is great, especially Willem Dafoe. I love that freaky-looking motherfucker. It's very funny. The story is great. Simply put, it's a Wes Anderson banger.

Let's hit the highlight reel:

  • "Don't touch my lobby boy" scene. Thumbs up. Great scene.

  • Reading of the Will scene. Two thumbs up. Hilarious scene.

  • Confession scene + Dafoe's death. Three thumbs up. I love it.

  • Dafoe chucking the lawyer's cat out of the window. Eight thumbs up. Fucking hilarious.

Anyway, it hits a bit of a snag in the middle frame. That's hockey lingo for 2nd period. Translation: the movie dragged a bit in the middle. That's why I didn't give it more stinky bananas.

If you're a big Wes Anderson fan, you probably watch this movie once a week. For us regular folk, once every 5 years is probably good enough. Enjoy. See ya.
