6.5/10 stinky bananas
Decent. They absolutely bungled the ending of the movie though. What a shame.
Let's start with what I like about The Amateur. The pace, the story, the action is all pretty dang good up until Rami Malek meets the guy that actually killed his wife. Also, Laurence Fishburne and Jon Bernthal ALWAYS make for good side characters. They never fail.
Okay... I got 2 big problems with this movie. The first problem, Rami Malek is a bad actor. He has this quirky and weird style of acting and I've grown to hate it. He's practically the same character in everything he's in, and frankly, I'm tired of it. I can't believe he won an Oscar. The Oscar voters are a bunch of morons. The second problem, the ending is horrific. Rami Malek completely fucks up the first three guys involved in his wife's murder, killing them in brutal fashion. Good, fantastic... but for the final guy, the guy that actually pulled the trigger on the gun that killed his wife, what does he get? He gets a good old fashioned prank. Rami drove his boat to Finland. Got his ass. So unsatisfying. A perfect ending would've been if Rami took the gun and immediately shot the guy in the face. Boom! Movie over, roll the credits. But noooooo, Rami can't kill anybody at point blank, he has to be standing exactly three feet away from them before he can blow them to smithereens. How the hell does that make sense.
Anyway, this is a good movie to throw on if you have some time to kill and want to scroll your phone while something plays in the background. See ya.
