8.7/10 stinky bananas

Gotta love Rock. How can you not? Iconic character. Iconic movie.

Rocky is one of the few cases where the story of the making of the movie is arguably better than the movie itself. The life and career of Sylvester Stallone is one for the ages. Absolute legend.

Anyway, the first half of the movie is a bit of a slow burn. It's not bad, it just takes a while to hit its stride. Once it gets going, it does not look back until Rocky 5, then it all comes crashing down, then Creed brings Rocky back from the dead. Fun stuff.

Anyway, the characters are great. Obviously, you got Rock. He's the best. But, there is an argument for Mick and Apollo Creed as the best characters in the series. Mick is the emotional bedrock of the first three films. He brings the heat. The scene where he asks Rocky to be his manager is a 10 out of 10 scene. Incredible work. As soon as he's gone, the movies begin to falter because they try to make Adrian the emotional backbone and she stinks to high heaven. Apollo Creed is just cool as hell. There's no other way to put it. He rules. Carl Weathers is fantastic in the role.

Anyway, Rocky is the godfather of movie montages. They perfected the formula. The theme, the intensity, they got it all. I am forever grateful to the Rocky movies for paving the way for movie montages that get the blood pumping. Can I get a hell yeah?

Anyway, the big fight is unreal. I fucking love how Rock takes a beating but he never abandons the game plan... ripping the body. He rips the body until he's literally blue in the face. If the big fight doesn't get you fired up then you have no pulse. I get teary-eyed watching these fight scenes. That's how fucking fired up I get.

Anyway, go watch the Rocky movies. They are always a good rewatch. See ya.
