Frankenstein

Good. It's good. Nothing to write home about.

Visually stunning movie. Fantastic work by Guillermo del Toro and crew.

Performances are strong. Oscar Isaac is very good, as he always is.

The movie completely loses me after Victor kills Mia Goth. She dies and then Victor decides to make it his life's mission to kill his unkillable monster. I don't get why. Number 1 - it's Victor's fault that she died, he fucking shot her. Number 2 - you can't kill Frankenstein, Victor dropped a castle on his head and it didn't leave a mark. After repeated attempts at trying to kill Frankenstein and treating him like dogshit for his entire existence, he asks Frankenstein to forgive him. That moment blew my mind. There wasn't a single moment throughout the movie where Victor shows any kind of affection or love for Frankenstein, quite the opposite in fact, why would he care if he got Frankenstein's forgiveness, he hates his guts. What's even worse is that Frankenstein starts sobbing like a baby saying "I forgive you daddy". Give me a fucking break. He created you and then treated you like a giant piece of shit the entire time. That entire scene just took me out of the movie. It made no sense. I think Guillermo rushed the ending a bit. It left me feeling very unsatisfied.

Outside of the ending, I like the movie. I really like the making of the monster part. All of that was much more interesting to me than watching Jacob Elordi spy on a blind old man for 20 minutes.
