7.1/10 stinky bananas
It's pretty good. Nothing to write home about.
The hype for these Dune movies are out of control and I have no idea why. Is it because it looks good? Like the CGI and shit? I don't get it.
Dune: Part One is a slow burn. I wasn't really gripped by the Dune lore. And the movie just abruptly ends, it doesn't quite feel like a complete movie to me.
The characters are largely uninteresting to me. I don't think Timothee Chalamet is good in this movie at all. He's a good actor but the role doesn't suit him. Bad casting.
I HATE the blue armor suits. They make everybody look all glitchy and blurry and they are fucking USELESS. What the fuck is the point of those things?
Obviously, Dune 1 ain't all bad. The visuals are good, no doubt about that. Personally, how a movie looks doesn't matter all that much to me, but if that's your bag baby then all the power to you.
The action is solid. The Jason Mamoa hallway fight scene is great (very reminiscent of Boromir in LOTR). The scene where the good guys get ambushed is really good too.
The voice control power is very cool, but it is criminally underutilized. That should be this kid's greatest weapon and he barely fucking uses it. He probably could've saved Jason Mamoa by just telling all the bad guys to kill themselves, but Paul is a bitch.
Dune: Part One is a really good background noise movie. Throw it on while you do some work and lift your head up every once in awhile when the music intensifies. Pro move.
