6.9/10 stinky bananas
Pretty good. Could've been great, but the movie kind of stumbles its way to the finish line.
I like the concept. The UFO being the alien is a unique idea, and I like that they try to capture some footage of it to make some money. Smart.
Beautifully shot movie. All the shots with the alien looked phenomenal. Plus that shot at the end where you find out the main guy is still alive. Badass stuff.
I got 3 gripes:
The monkey and the shoe... what the hell was that all about? I shouldn't have to google what a scene means after I finish watching the movie. I understand that it was a metaphor of some sort, but who cares. The scene is completely irrelevant. I like the scene, I just thought they were going to tie it all together in the end. They did not.
The end is not great. Did they end up getting the footage? Or is that photo all they have? If all they have is that photo, then they may as well have nothing. Nobody is going to give a flying fuck about that photo. They will dismiss that photo as if it was another grainy photo of Bigfoot.
The alien is dumb as hell. It ate a balloon and died. Tough look for all the extraterrestrials out there. Also, the alien is not scary. I'm not sure if that is what Jordan Peele intended. If he meant it to be scary, he failed. The alien won't kill you if you don't look at it or you're inside. Easy enough. Not scary.
Nope is not a total waste of your time. Watch it if you're in the mood for something a little creepy, I guess. See ya.
