6.4/10 stinky bananas

Decent movie. Leaves a lot to be desired.

F1 is definitely disappointing given the hype, but the Hans Zimmer score and the driving scenes are at least enough to keep you engaged. I don't give a rat's ass about the actual sport of F1, but the driving sequences in the movie are well done and fun to watch.

Everything outside of the driving and the score is subpar. It feels as though some studio head attempted to exploit the recent popularity of F1. This how I imagine the F1 movie pitch went down:

Studio head: "Okay, here's my idea. Have you seen that show, Drive to Survive? Oh, you haven't? Me neither. Anyway, what if this wildly popular show was a movie? We'll cast Brad Pitt as the lead. Sound good?

Studio henchman: *furious applause*

F1 is a poorly written movie. For example, the rookie character is moronic. He goes against the advice of Brad Pitt and almost gets himself killed, or so I thought. Turns out, he only has little baby burns on his hands. He literally crashed and burned and was practically no worse for the wear. His dumbass Mom gets mad at Pitt for being dangerous. Hey jackass, your kid is an F1 driver. If you don't want your kid to be in harms way, don't let him drive a car a million miles an hour for a living. Oh, and when he comes back after his little baby burns heal, he's angry with Brad Pitt. Why? He literally spent every race trying to help you win and you have the audacity to be pissy with him because he's having success while you heal your little baby hands? How dumb is that? That's not all. The scene where they play poker for the number 1 driver job... he goes all in with a pair of 5s. No shit Brad Pitt had a better hand. You have your whole career on the line and you bet it on a pair of 5s? He should have been fired on the spot for that. Side note: they stole that poker scene from Friends. Ross lets Rachel win. The scene plays a lot better in Friends than it does in this movie.

The movie is too damn long. It drags. And worst of all, this movie has no emotional heartbeat. I couldn't care less about the characters. When they won in the end (spoiler alert) I felt absolutely nothing. If you are not emotionally invested in a sports movie, then said movie is a failure. That's the whole damn point.

Anyway, if you want to watch this movie, I recommend finding a Youtube compilation of all the racing scenes. That would be better than watching the whole movie. Your welcome for saving you hours of your time. See ya.
