8.4/10 stinky bananas

Damn good movie. Very unique and interesting.

Riz Ahmed is excellent in this one. Oscar worthy performance. Oscars are dumb though so who cares. Olivia Cooke and Paul Raci were great too and definitely deserve some shine.

I loved hearing the sound from Riz’s point of view. I’ve never seen anything like that in a movie before. Major points for that.

I hate subtitles. I hate reading when I watch a movie. Save the reading for books. Nerds.

With that said, I actually liked the use of subtitles in this movie. I know, I‘m an idiot. But fuck you, I’m the pro movie reviewer and you’re probably some scrub that thinks The Godfather is the greatest movie ever. Real original jackass. Anyway, I liked how they didn’t give us subtitles until Riz’s character understood sign language. It really accentuated (big word, credit to me) his struggle.

My main problem was watching his self-destruction after overcoming such a huge obstacle. I know that’s by design, but it makes it very hard to watch. That means the director (Darius Marder) did a good job. I just don’t like it. Sue me.

Watch it. Consider this a recommendation. Bye.
