9.5/10 stinky bananas
Is the John Wick franchise the greatest movie franchise of all time? People are asking. I say yes. Fight me.
Chad Stahelski (director) and crew continue to reinvent the action movie genre. I can't say enough good things about these movies and the people that made them.
The action scenes in John Wick 4 are once again outstanding:
Fight at the Japan Continental, especially the nunchucks part
Fighting in traffic at the Paris roundabout
Poker game and the ensuing fight scene
Above view of John Wick slaughtering people with the fire shotgun (quite possibly the coolest action scene these eyes have ever seen)
Bravo. Two thumbs up.
Just like the three movies that came before it, John Wick 4 does an excellent job of world building. Whether it's the Japan Continental, John's High Table family meeting, the duel, or all the great secondary characters, you get completely enthralled by the John Wick world. The secondary characters and the antagonist are especially great in this movie. Bill Skarsgard is awesome in this. He is very menacing and I love his outfits. The blind guy, the guy with the dog, the Japan Continental manager, and the fat suit guy are all terrific characters.
Now, you may be thinking, "Mr. Stinky Bananas you had nothing but positive things to say about John Wick 4, why is it only 9.5/10 stinky bananas?" I will tell you why.
John Wick deserves a much better on-screen death than that (spoiler alert). That death scene does not do Keanu's character justice. I should be crying when John Wick takes his last breath. I shed no tears when Winston was standing over his grave, and that is all the evidence you need to know that John Wick did not get a proper sendoff.
Now, there is a chance that they are pranking us and John Wick is not dead. If that is indeed the case, I reserve the right to change my score for John Wick: Chapter 4.
Go watch this movie in theatres, you will not regret it.
RIP Lance Reddick
